As 2018 draws to a close, the NFL landscape has become very interesting to some members of this board. Let's first look at the Chicago Bears: Matt Nagy, the latest coach from the Andy Reid coaching tree (10 that became head coaches, 7 err 6 after today that are still coaching) has had a great season so far. He's done a great job with QG Mitchell Trubisky and their defense is the best in the NFL. I heard some thoughts that it might be better for the Bears to lose to the Vikings in order to have an "easier" first playoff game. Well, Chicago beat Minnesota handily and now they are scheduled to play the defending Superbowl champions on Sunday. The same team they lost 31-3 last season. But this year is different. Chicago looks great this year and I don't see them having an issue winning their first game. Next is the Kansas City Chiefs: We now have a dynamic quarterback, and in my biased opinion the best QB in the NFL. This is so different than what we have been used to here. The good QBs that we have had are always traded and come here (Montana, Trent Green, Alex Smith), but we have been horrible at drafting a franchise QB. Before Mahomes, the last time the Chiefs have drafted a QB in the first round was in 83, considered one of the greatest QB drafting classes available: John Elway 1st Todd Blackledge 7th (and we pick him... ) Jim Kelly 14th Dan Marino 27th Chiefs had a chance at Kelly or Marino and we picked a dud. But again, this year is different. As a Chiefs fan, having Mahomes as our QB is still unreal and I have to pinch myself. Some of the highlights from this year: From last week: My favorite, the left handed throw: My 2nd favorite, the no look pass: Now if the horrible defense can just hold on, but things are definitely buzzing here in KC. It seems like this Chiefs team is different from the others who would lose in their first game in the playoffs. Exciting times!

Oh yeah baby! The Bears for the first time in 8 years won the division. I am on Cloud 9 at the moment. My only wish for them is they make it past the first round. Please oh please beat Philly. If they can do that, I will be satisfied and everything beyond that is gravy.
The defense is fantastic, but their offense is a bit hit or miss. Trubisky still makes some very risky throws and has a tendency to overthrow the ball. And as you pointed out earlier Robert, Matt Naggy already tied (or maybe broke) a franchise record for being the second coach of the Bears to have 10 or more wins in their first season as head coach. The first one being George Halas (the original owner of the Bears). So, Naggy is definitely loved right now in Chicago.
KC is on fire and at least you get to enjoy a first round by. I'm pulling for ya as I'd like to see Andy Reid finally win a SB. He's gotten close so many times but never all the way (as far as I know). The one that pains me the most was years ago when Philly was in the SB with McNabb, who was a fantastic scrambling QB and could rush for many yards quickly. But for whatever reason McNabb stayed in the pocket most of the game and never rushed for much of anything, which I thought killed their SB chances, Anyway, fingers crossed for you Robert.
The team with the most momentum is New Orleans. They are going to be tough to beat, especially at home.

The best thing I like about the Bears season is the trade to get Khalil Mack. What was Chucky thinking trading him away from the Raiders?? I don't know, but as a Chiefs fan who hates Raider Nation I was loving watching this take place. This and seeing what is happening with the Broncos...it has been great. I know Chicago is loving Gruden:
New Orleans is definitely the hot team right now and to a smaller extent the Colts as they have been on a really hot streak. It is great that I am actually in a position to look forward to watching each of these playoff games with a vested interest in how things turn out.

Looking at the match-ups for this weekend:
Saturday Colts at Texans Seahawks at Cowboys Sunday Chargers at Ravens Eagles at Bears
I'm thinking that the Texans will hold off the Colts, even though they are one of the hottest teams right now.
The other Saturday game is a toss up for me as I have no clue. I know people say Seattle is not good on the road but I have a feeling they are coming away with the win.
I'm picking Ravens to come through at home with their defense. Same with the Bears, I think their defense along with wanting revenge from last season will bring them a win. The Nick Foles magic has to run out at some point.

The colts steamrolled the Texans.
Watching the Cowboys/Seahawks game now. Wow, did you see that ankle injury on the Cowboy player? Damn that had to hurt bad. I hope he will be able to make a full recovery. Sad to see such an injury happen to these players.

Yeah, that injury was horrible. I was watching and saw the replay as they went to commercial and heard Joe Buck's comment but I didn't notice anything thinking it was his wrist or side so I went back on the DVR. Ouch, wish I didn't go back. Very bad and I agree, really sad to have something like that happen to the guy.
Let's see if I go 0-2 again today.

Have a defensive battle here. That catch/fumble at the end of the half was crazy. That should have been a completed pass.
Edit: Argh, Matt Naggy you should have taken the timeout on 1st down once the Eagles got 1st and goal. TD... now a little under a minute to drive down for a field goal...this game is so close. Still time though.
These replays on this game, wow. Too close to overturn, two point should be no good.

Great kick-off return!
Edit: Nice throw and catch! Chicago is in field goal range.
This game is crazy, haha.
Edit 2: Oh crap. Man, so sorry man. I thought it was good.
This was a great game, wish it could have turned out differently. Never realized how many times this season the kicks hit the goal post.
Bears had a great year, can't take that away from them.

Yeah, great season but it figures it would end on a missed field goal. Parkey has missed so many this season and it feels appropriate that’s the capper of it all. Ugh. So many games lost this season by one score. Add this to the list.
Good luck to KC next week. I’m pulling for ya now that the Bears are out.

Congrats Robert! Your team looked good save for special teams

Thanks! Yeah, usually special teams is one of our strengths but not yesterday. And who would have thought that the KC defense played better than the offense?! At least that is the way I felt for yesterday's game.
Monkey is finally off of our back. Indy has been the thorn in our side. In the 1995 season, where Lin Elliot misses 3 field goals that day in a game where the Chiefs lose 10-7. During 2003, vs. Peyton Manning in the game where neither team punted and the Chiefs lost 38-31. In 2014 where the Chiefs were leading the Colts 38-10 in the 3rd quarter...and still manage to lose. With Mahomes things are truly different.
The Chiefs haven't won a home playoff game in 25 years...until now.
City is pretty happy right now.

Yeah, your defense looked great. I think it's going to be a good match against New England. I think KC has the edge and I'll be pulling for you, but I'm hoping it will be a fun game to watch.
The whole time watching the Rams game, I kept thinking the Bears should be playing this game and they would've beaten the Rams again.....still sore losing that game to the Eagles.

Thanks, dschroll. So close but it was not meant to be.
My emotions went crazy during the game to mad at the end to then sad. So many turning points in that game that went back and forth...need to sleep it off.

So close. I was rooting for KC, would've been cool, I'm tired of NE and Brady. That being said, watching him, yet again, let a last minute charge adds fuel to his case of being the G.O.A.T. I'm not a Brady fan, but have to give credit where credit is due.
Similar to when Lebron beat the Warriors in 2016. I HATE him with a fiery passion but dammit, he can play.

I'm sorry Robert. It was a hard fought game and KC really held their own. It was a rough start but KC came back in a big way to tie that game up and send it into OT. Honestly, IMO, whoever won that coin toss was going to win that game. Had it gone the other way I think KC would've taken it to them. I think Andy Reid should have called a timeout to give the Defense a breather when defending the red zone, but other than that and a questionable roughing the passer call, it was a good game of football on both sides.
At least KC didn't get screwed like the Saints did. That no call on what was blatant pass interference by the Rams essentially cost them the game. Had they gotten that call, they would be going to the Super Bowl. If I was a Saints fan I would be uber pissed because that call made all the difference in that game. It's not like someone from their own team screwed them by missing a FRICKING FIELD GOAL........yeah, I'm still bitter...

Thanks, dschroll. I am handling it a lot better than some of my friends and other people in KC, but it still stings a bit haha. If only Dee Ford wasn't offsides on that play...
I agree, who ever got the ball in overtime was going to win that game. But I do feel good knowing that we have a great QB, I am soooo not used to that, one that we drafted.
Two things that I have been seen a bit of talk, one due to that bad NO/LA non-call, is to have pass interference and other calls reviewable. I actually like the idea, just keep it with the coaches' two challenges per game. I'd also like to see a change to the OT situation. It is better than past years of first score wins, but I would like it to be a little closer to how college implements it.
But I am now to the point where I will watch the Superbowl lol.
Also in Chiefs news, defensive coordinator Bob Sutton was fired quickly, which fans in KC have been wanting for the past couple of seasons. With Steve Spagnuolo I hope things will get better. It will be interesting to see what they do with some of the personnel this off season.
