My 8 YO boy is the complete opposite. He was intrigued when I started to play. Then I said, why don't you start w/ Wild World on your 3DS because I only have 1 copy of New Leaf. He created a town and got stuck on a few things. I completed some tasks for him so he could buy/sell stuff. I explained what happened years ago when I left AC untouched. I came back to find flies/roaches crawling around my house. Then he wanted to delete his town. He did and the characters kept sending notes saying goodbye.
He came back 2 days later and was concerned (even teary eyed) because he couldn't get the idea of sad characters out of his head. He had created a character on New Leaf and saw his tent when I played. I had to delete that too. Now he can't even see my 3DSXL on the table, he has to move it out of eyesight. He's one empathetic kid.
Let me know when you guys are up. I want to travel to other towns and buy/sell/trade. I've got tons of fruit to share, including Perfect Oranges. But IIRC, you can only grow your native fruit as Perfect.

If you get to best buy or get that SSID working you can get an item today. I think it's a cat play structure.
Also, a photo a day challenge is up.

I got the item on July 1, though I forget what it was.
Got my Dream Suite.
Couple of things: 1) Can you guys send me a few notes? I have only 1 from jincman so I don't have enough to do an attachment of a pic. 2) Is there any instructions on how to attach a pic in SwapNote? I couldn't figure it out. 3) Maybe we should start our own ACNL thread? Then we can post things to trade or optimal selling times. It's July 3 and today my turnip prices are about 315 (IIRC). 2nd increase in 2 days, supposedly it has 1 or 2 days more of increase. If you have turnips, you should come over. I could use this thread to then leave my 3DS on, gate open, and you guys can come and take advantage. I've also got a ton of perfect oranges and every fruit except a peach.

Animal Crossing is getting so much buzz now. I thought about getting it but I only played the first on Gamecube for a bit before I got bored with it.

Join us on the dark side fatty. Ok, I haven't really played AC since the GC one, which I loved.
I'm digging this one too. Still trying to figure everything out in terms of what I need to do to visit people. Maybe we can all try and connect this weekend.

No prob. I also don't have a problem leaving AC on w/ the gate open then everyone can come in and out. And by everyone, I mean my buds on this forum, not the riff raff.

How do I visit your town? Do I need to know your name or your town's name or something?

You need to make sure we're 3DS friends. Then we need to ensure that our gates our open for friends. Then you can travel to other towns (assuming our games are running simultaneously).
I just had a gbatemp.net forum member drop into my shop because turnips were higher price. He returned the favor by bring some Astro furniture that I could hold and subsequently add to my catalog for purchase at Tom's. He also brought peaches, the last fruit that I did not have growing in my town. The cataloging is the coolest thing, if you're missing stuff you can have others just hold it so it'll appear in their local catalog for later purchase.

With absolutely no prior knowledge about Animal Crossing (having never played any version) I have to say the posts in this thread are hilarious.

oldskool. Give me a time/day you will have your village open and I will come visit. As far as I can tell, we are 3DS friends so we should be able to visit each other's villages when they're open.
UsualNoise, being new to AC, I would definitely recommend giving it a shot. Its a great family oriented game and there's lots of Nintendo themed items you can collect.

dschroll (and everyone else, though I think it's only jincman) my gates are open now. I'm out and about this AM but I've left my 3DS on the charger so come on over. Normally I wouldn't allow this but I know you guys. I've got every fruit, except peaches, which are now growing. I planted 3 yesterday and only 1 tree is alive but growing. Don't know if you can go to my showcase, I have Reggie's house w/ all the cool furniture.
I have a ton of stuff in my wardrobe, if there's things you want to catalog, let me know and I can put it out so you can hold it.
Enjoy.

Awesome! Thanks oldskool. I visited your town. Nice layout. Snagged some fruit (as much as I could hold).
I didn't see any banana trees though. Since i'm playing with my daughter on this game, we're playing as her character (Becca) from the town of X-wing (her choice...I'm totally serious on that). I assume you can just put your 3DS in sleep mode while leaving your gates open. If that's the case, let me know and I'll leave my gates opened up. Although we just started playing so not sure we can offer you much.
How does the whole catalog thing work? How do you get to see Reggie's house?
Thanks again!

I'm going to buy the game just so I can go in you guys' towns and chop down trees and bury 'items' that washed up on my shore...

Yup, noticed the fruit, no worries. You can stack the fruit 3 high by dragging on each other. That way it only takes 1 inventory slot. I don't think there's bananas. www.thonky.com/animal-crossing-new-leaf/Sorry, no Reggie's house. I noticed that the showcase gates are closed when I open my gate. If I catch anything on Twitter regarding new houses opening up, I'll let you know. Those tend to happen on Nintendo Zones, but now we know how to do that at home... Catalog appears after your T&T Market (Tim's) upgrades to a larger store. When it does, there's a catalog (ATM) machine. That machine allows you to order anything you've seen or touched. When you travel to other towns, you can hold different items. When you hold them, your own 3DS copy notes that you are aware of the item, and then puts them in your store catalog. Then you can buy them in your local store. This is useful if you are trying to complete a set of something. Crazy as it sounds, people on Gamefaqs are charging 500K+ bells for the privilege of cataloging. Crazy. The big thing for me is turnip prices. I got greedy and didn't take advantage of the 300+ price (I bought at 91). Now I'm at 41 and have 1 day. If you guys have a decent price, let me know. Then I can come and sell your store.

Any of you have decent turnip prices on ACNL? I bought mine at 90 and prices haven't gone above 30.
