I saw dschroll posted that the Xbox One S was down to $199 for some consoles and thought, "why did Microsoft post that before E3?". Little did I know that MS had their E3 conference already! My life has been consumed with trying to build our new house so I've been missing out on gaming news. I'll start this thread for feedback but I'm off to finish watching game 6 on the NHL playoffs (I don't even watch hockey but watched some of the playoffs and it has been pretty good) and then watch MS E3 highlights and will post impressions in this thread. www.xbox.com/en-US/e3/live-event

Xbox One X.
Think it is neat how powerful it is but just like the Playstation Pro I am not the intended audience. I just can't see spending more to get a better version on a console I already have.
I wonder how reliable it will be that it is liquid cooled. Impressed that they were able to get it so small, would be funny to see it side by side the original Xbox.
Edit: These games nowadays look really great, though. Forza 7, though I don't care about the series as I find newer racing games kinda boring, looks amazing in 4K.

State of Decay 2, looked like a Walking Dead game, I couldn't help but laugh at the facial animations of the main character.

OK, here are my thoughts on the MS conference.
Overall I think MS is doing a good job. I really like their approach with everything. They are making the XBOX platform something that evolves over time but ultimately has access to all previous XBOX content. It's a great strategy and allows gamers to continue to enjoy all of their content on new hardware. I'm definitely tempted to upgrade to a newer XBOX since all of my 360 games (or most anyway) are now part of the backwards compatible list. Adding original XBOX games on top of it, seems like a great thing.
That being said, while I love what MS is doing, I didn't see any games that are jumping out at me that I absolutely have to play...nothing on the XBOX One X hardware anyway. The XBOX One X hardware is very impressive and the games look ridiculously detailed, but given that the hardware costs $499, there wasn't one game that made me feel like I needed to drop $500 to play it. That may change later when games come out and get reviewed, but for now I have no plans to pre order.
Speaking of XBOX One X, I think it's a terrible name. I'm all for keeping the XBOX platform in the name, but you have the XBOX One, the XBOX One S, and now the XBOX One X. I feel like they are painting themselves in a corner here for the next iteration. I would've rather they just gone with XBOX One Scorpio or something. I was not a fan of the XBOX One name to begin with given they just came off the XBOX 360, but adding a single letter to distinguish one console from another I think is just going to cause a lot of consumer confusion....at least for the uninformed consumer.
I also think the price of the XBOX One X is a bit steep. No doubt the system is crazy powerful and likely the costs are justified. But given the XBOX One S is selling for $199-$249 now, I think having your next upgrade at double the price is a bit of a tall ask. I like Sony's pricing strategy a bit better where the PS4 Pro is $100 more than the PS4. It's a premium product for gamers that want that premium experience and it's not going to break the bank for them to get it. But, as fatty said already, I'm not the target person for the XBOX One X. It's cool and all, but I don't have a 4K TV yet and the upgrades to games are just not enough incentive to justify the extra expense.
I'm really surprised MS didn't announce anything with VR. It seems like XBOX One X could do some amazing VR games, but nothing of the sort was announced. Overall, MS is doing a great job and if I was an XBOX owner I would be quite pleased with how things are progressing (save for those of you who own Kinect, which MS seems to not care about any longer). I'm definitely tempted on getting an XBOX One S just because I'd have access to XBOX One content along with the XBOX 360 games I already have. Maybe this holiday when black friday deals come out. We'll see.
Bring on the Sony and Nintendo conferences!

Dschroll, I hear and agree with you. But what I'm also thinking, even though we are not the target for the $499 Xbox One X, that the target demographic that wants to fork over five bennies is pretty darn small. At this price I don't see them selling much after the initial diehards get their systems this Fall.
For some reason, I thought you had an Xbox One. If there is any interest, that $199 Xbox One S is a great deal (and that system looks sharp), but like you said, you are getting pretty much all your games accounted for with Sony and Nintendo's offerings. I can't think of an Xbox exclusive, besides Killer Instinct, that I am really excited about.

I can't think of an Xbox exclusive, besides Killer Instinct, that I am really excited about. No XBOX One for me. As you already said, there just aren't really exclusives that I'm clamoring to play on the XB1. Sure there are games like Rare Replay, Ori, and Killer Instinct, but none of those are just enough incentive for me to make the purchase. Now that I can effectively substitute this in place of my 360 since most of my 360 games will play on the XB1, then maybe I might get one. Just depends on if I find a deal I can't refuse. But there's no urgency for me. I'm perfectly content with my PS4 and Switch (not to mention all the retro systems I seemingly collect now )

As an XBox outsider, I find most of this discussion interesting but ultimately irrelevant to me. The only XBox I got was a 360 to serve as a Media Center extender (which gets rarely used). I had gotten a kinect and a bunch of kinect games early on, but sold them all (never really did it for me).
My gaming is all Wii U / 3DS at this point with a huge PS3 backlog that I may never get to. I'll get the Switch eventually but an XBox One X is pretty much never going to happen. (Don't have any plans for 4K gaming or movies at any point. 1080p remains 'good enough' for me.)
I will say that I completely agree with dschroll about the name - to me it's like the Wii U all over again. OK, maybe not THAT bad, but still ... not great.

Not really interested going down the MS hole. I do envy Cuphead. Fortunately, it's also on PC so thank goodness my boy built a PC.

I really liked the MS presentation the best of the three. Here were my highlights:
1. Xbox One X. This is very tempting to me. I want to buy it and I am 90% sure I will but they really dropped the ball for me when they ignored VR. I get their point... it is early and the games are not great but I am sick of sitting on the sidelines of VR. Beyond that though, the hardware has great specs. I think it is funny they saved the 2 least exciting pieces of info for E3... price and the look of the box.. neither were impressive.
2. Anthem looks awesome and I now see why they tossed Mass EFfect to some crap developer. They were making THIS. It looks similar to Destiny but has 4 player co-op and probably a better story. I am thinking about skipping Destiny 2 and playing this on my XOX.
3. Ori. Man I loved the first one and this new one looks even better. Can't wait for #2.
4. Forza 7 - looks interesting. I've had fun with racing games in the past but always have trouble convincing myself to buy one.
5. Sea of Thieves - Always expect to be underwhelmed by this game and always come out laughing.
6. Cuphead - Sick of seeing it but still want to play it.
Overall, I give MS an A-. I think they are making good hardware, honoring their customer base with backwards compatibility all the way to Xbox OG. They are pushing cross platform play and getting some great games on their system.
I wish they had VR and the price for their new box was $400 or even $450. But overall.. excellent.
