I've been tied up in work all day and this is all I've seen so far. So I'm seeing oldskool post 'Metroid' (but him not seeing the video yet), and there are so many different emotions that are going through my mind right now. Can't wait to get home and watch the presentation later. Going on blackout til then. I will either be very happy or very disappointed later, haha.

OK, checked out announcements. So for me as a Metroid fan I have: Metroid: Samus Returns - remake of Metroid II for 3DS. Special edition also available with CD containing Metroid songs. I'll be getting this, although having recently played the fan-made AM2R (which is essentially the same thing) I *really* hope Nintendo can do better. It will be a high bar, though, because it was a GREAT game. Metroid Prime 4 - announced as 'in development' for Switch and no other details. OK Nintendo, all you had to do was make a new Metroid game to get me to buy a Switch ... so, looks like I'm in for one. Fortunately it won't be out for a while (2018?) so I still have time to wait for a good value bundle or price drop. Of course Super Mario Odyssey is now 10/27 so that will make me itchy to grab a system sooner rather than later. Nothing else really grabbed me, although I'm sure I'll get the Yoshi game whenever that comes out. I've played the original Superstar Saga and it was good, not great, so a remake isn't likely to be tempting for me. Hit this page for the quick summary of announcements: e3.nintendo.com/But really, they just had to say "Metroid Prime 4" and drop the mic. Game over.

I finally watched the trailer for Metroid: Samus Returns. Looks actually pretty good. All I can say re: Metroid is - FINALLY. Actually kind of glad to see new Amiibos coming out. Brings more life to my Amiiqo. Yeah, my Amiiqo got a good amount of use in Breath of the Wild (great way to score weapons and other stuff) - pretty neat little unit.

Yup, my son got mad at me when he saw my inventory and wondered why it was so stacked. Then he realized I was checking into Zelda daily just to harvest w/ the Amiqo.
Then he started doing the same...

Ok, my apologies for the delay in posting my feedback on Nintendo's E3 event. Things have been a bit hectic, but I absolutely watched it and have an opinion about it. Before I get started, I have to say I think this has been one of the most mediocre E3s in a while. I feel with most E3s there's always some big surprise or some game where I am blown away. I didn't feel like that was the case here with any of the big 3. Maybe I'm just getting old or perhaps my expectations are too high, but I just felt like this E3 was a bit of a letdown.
Now, onto Nintendo. Overall, Nintendo had some ups and downs during their E3 spotlight. The ups were definitely some nice surprises like the fact that Metroid Prime 4 was announced and the Treehouse Live announcement of Metroid Samus Returns. After people have been waiting for Nintendo to bring back Metroid, I don't think anyone would have thought they would be giving us 2 Metroid games. Very exciting. Mario Odyssey still looks as amazing as ever and I'm excited it's now got a firm date in October. Other games like the new Yosi and Kirby games also look fun, although both are 2018 games.
Some of the downs though aren't so much what Nintendo said, but rather what they didn't say. We still don't have a solid idea on Nintendo's online strategy with the Switch and when we can expect the companion app. No announcement on any kind of Virtual Console service even though people have been begging Nintendo for this since day 1 of the Switch. These are things Nintendo should have already addressed and the fact that they continue to stay silent about it has me feeling this is more due to incompetence than reluctance.
While I'm happy to see that some 3rd party developers are giving some love to the Nintendo Switch, I could do without all the "Nintendo content" being added to these various games. I'm getting the impression that Nintendo feels that a game won't sell unless it has some kind of Nintendo reference in it. I mean, does Skyrim really need Zelda clothes and weapons to sell well on Switch? Does Rocket League need mario hats on the cars? I want to see 3rd party games succeed on the Switch, but I am growing tired of Mario being the crutch for all these 3rd party games. I have zero interest in the new Mario+Rabbids game. It just doesn't compel me in any way. Maybe I'll be more interested in it more when reviews come out, but today I was watching them demo it and they literally took 10 minutes explaining various things before playing the game. If you have to explain that much of the game before I even boot it up, then it doesn't seem like a fun game to me.
I'm also surprised Nintendo didn't showcase any indie content They had the shortest presentation by far and having some indie stuff could've padded it a bit more and also show people what other great games they can be playing in between the big releases.
Overall though, Nintendo is doing a solid job with the Switch. They've definitely shown that they learned from their Wii U days by having a strong lineup of games throughout the year. Zelda was a fantastic launch title and then they moved onto Mario Kart, and now we have Arms this week, and after that Splatoon 2, Skyrim, Mario, etc. Pretty respectable overall. I just wish Nintendo would act like the multi billion dollar company it is and get their online shit together. Nintendo fans continue to give Nintendo a pass when it comes to this stuff, but in 2017 this is practically unforgivable and any other company would be hung out to dry by launching a platform without any kind of clear online strategy. Maybe if people demanded more from Nintendo, they would make it a bigger priority.

I'm on vacation but I did watch the N conference. I really liked the trailer for "Metroid: Samus Returns". I have a pre-order for the special edition in already. I thought the MP4 announcement was total crap. They didn't have a single thing to show for it after we've been asking for years. Pretty weak. And let's be honest, a side scroller can be developed by a few college grads these days. So, it feels like N is giving us that plus a few good ideas from top tier talent to throw in the mix.
Overall, I give N a D for their conference. Although I do still hope to one day buy the switch. When MP4 actually comes out, there should be a Mario game and maybe a few others... maybe even better hardware at the time.
