Here's hoping 2021 is better than 2020! Here's what I've finished so far this year:
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition (NSW) - beat the main story mode and the first adventure map to see both versions of the credits. I've grown to enjoy this style of game and as a completionist there's enough to last me 1000 hours if I really wanted it to (literally, Google that) ... but I don't.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (NSW) - finished the whole game and 100%-ed the map playing co-op with my daughter. Very enjoyable and not as overwhelming as the previous Hyrule Warriors game. More details about the experience in the separate game thread.
Bowser's Fury (NSW) - great mini-game. Probably took around 8 hours or so? Wish it was more substantial, felt like it was an add-on for Super Mario Odyssey. Still a great, well-designed game by Nintendo. Makes me want Super Mario Odyssey 2.

Stories Untold on Switch storiesuntoldgame.com/Seemed like a mish mash and then it was tied together at the end. I liked the story angle. I also like the retro angle, having you play text-based adventure. My biggest complaint will be that the text can be REALLY small, esp in HH mode since only have the screen holds the monitor. Had to wear my reading glasses to get through it. Little Nightmares II on Switch I like this series but kinda wish I went with the PS4 version. The Switch translation was glitchy and made it hard for precise movement.

Minute of Islands on Switch. Been waiting for this since I caught it at PAX a few years back. Melancholy point and click w/ some fantastic art.

Finished my 'completionist' run of Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition for Switch. Took around 355 hours to finish everything and collect all the medals. Not for the faint of heart. However, compared to the original Wii U version the Switch version is WAY easier.

Finished my 100% run on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64). Also doing it on 3DS to unlock the Boss challenge. I wish I could combine aspects of both games for the ultimate version: 3DS gyro aiming is 1000% better than N64 joystick aiming. However, having to use the stylus while playing is unenjoyable for me. I wish they did a Switch Zelda compilation like they did for Mario - it is overdue.

Finished Metroid Dread for Switch today. Really enjoyed it, it is an ALMOST perfect game. The only thing that keeps it from being a 10/10 (for me) is the high death counter. Most of the game is average Metroid difficulty, but the boss & miniboss encounters seem to ramp way up to excessive difficulty levels. I didn't see any death counter in the game, but I'd guess I was at or above 100 for the game. Which is WAY higher than all other Metroid games I've played (which is all of them).
However, the very well-done story and overall great controls and abilities makes this a 2D Metroid classic. For me only Super Metroid is a better game in the 2D series of games. So yeah, I'm a fan.

Toem on Switch. Fun little game, I'm not a true completionist and some of the things to find aren't entirely obvious.

Just wondering if we should convert this thread to a 'general' backlog thread and not track per year anymore. It seems we don't have as much traffic these days so it might make more sense. I can rename this and remove the year if you guys don't object.

Just finished the recently added one-hit-kill Dread mode of Metroid Dread. It was ... hard, to say the least. You end up developing strategies to get through 'normal' parts of the game, then have to practice boss patterns much more carefully to survive those fights. I ended up with 428 deaths overall, probably 100 or so on the final boss by itself. Still, while it pushed the limits of 'enjoying' a game, since I love Metroid Dread so much it was actually a pretty cool challenge.
Also, since my initial review on this game I've come to understand the difficulty, while higher than usual, is actually designed to make you better at patterns and strategy. So while I still don't like the initial learning curve, I definitely appreciate the intent of the game designers.

Been going retro and playing/finishing some indie Gambeboy titles on my modded Gameboy DMG with backlit IPS. LOVE the display.
Finished The Shapeshifter - I had to play some parts on a GBC because the Gameboy dpad has too much play for precise platforming. I also funded Shapeshifter 2, a 2 cartridge game.
The Year After BETA - Found this one on itch.io

And yes, sadly, my next finished game is ... (drum roll) ... Picross 6 for Switch.
However, I did get Metroid Prime Remastered and am about to complete it.
