What do you recommend for Wii games and getting cover flow? Jincman and I are trying to work that out now, but he seemed to indicate that it's unstable. Do you recommend a particular site to check out to do Wii games (assuming the ones you listed from a few years ago may not be as up to date)? I'm definitely into this at the moment. I've got a flash cart for my N64, a flash cart on my SNES, and this HDD connected to my Wii playing GC games. I need to get a flash cart for my Genesis still, and I'm also looking to mod my Dreamcast to play games off an SD card. I'm loving having access to all these great games

You mean how do you get your hands on Wii games to put on the HDD? Years ago we did it a few ways.
1) Sneaker net passing ISOs w/ HDDs. I had to use my oldest, PPC based Mac Mini and burn the DVDs REALLY slow. That had the best result. 2) Getting your friends' Wii games and burning them to your HDD w/ the Homebrew. 3) Going to Blockbuster or similar, renting the game and then burning it on the HDD. This would be your opportunity to use Gamefly...

I highly recommend USB Loader GX. I currently use it on both the Wii and Wii U as my backup loader since it plays all Wii and GameCube games in one interface (it can download all cover art as well). It rocks. If you're asking about actual ISOs I don't know, I have discs for all my games.

I was specifically looking for some "how to" site on doing USB Loader GX. Wasn't sure if there were updates to sites that you guys recommended that maybe you didn't post here since it's been a while since this was last talked about. I have many Wii discs already so don't have a problem ripping my own games, although there may be the occasional Wii ISO I would like to check out, but that's another topic.
Thanks for all the feedback oldskool and UsualNoise.

Thank you! I will check it out tomorrow to start messing with it. Man, I wished I had done this when you guys were, but better late than never I guess

Any chance anyone here wants to exchange Wii games? Maybe use drop box or something to share various Wii files with one another? I have a handful of games already but figured I would see if anyone was interested in trying to share our various collections with one another. Let me know and we can see if we can set something up that's easy for us all. Otherwise, no big deal.

I'll try to remember this week to see what I have and post up a pic of titles.
Alternatively...I think 'if' you formatted your HDD the same as I did, you could send me your HDD and I'll plug it into my HBC and rip them that way. The HDD could be smaller than a box of Wii discs. Then again, if I ship you just the discs, it's not as big. Could go either way.

I'm using Configurable USB Loader for my Wii. It allowed me to rip my discs from my Wii and write to the hard drive. It doesn't seem to play nice with Gamecube games, but I just use Nintendont for Gamecube games. It's all just text of the titles instead of the more elegant cover flow, but at some point I just wanted to play games on it, and this seems to work really well so far.
My Wii games all have a file format of WBFS, so I would imagine if your files are in that format, then we can just send files back and forth.
I don't have too many Wii games, but here's what I have:
Super Mario Galaxy 1 Super Mario Galaxy 2 Metroid Other M Metroid Prime Trilogy Big Brain Academy Animal Crossing Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition Kirby's Epic Yarn Wii Sports Resort Muramasa Wii Fit Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Let me know if anyone wants any of these games and we can set up a file sharing site or something.

I can also send you my HDD if there's any way to pull the games off mine and put onto yours. Not sure if you can see multiple HDDs using the Windows tool.
My HDD has TONS on there.

I just hook up the 2 drives to my laptop and copy/paste. That being said, I'd hate to have to deal with shipping drives all over the place. Wouldn't it be easier to use google drive or drop box and just upload a few games here and there? Maybe I guess not so much for you if you have tons, in which case, I completely understand wanting to just send out the drive.

We can try that, but the ISO's can be 4.7 GB IIRC.

Fair enough. I'm meeting with Jincman this weekend since we're going to PAX East. He will bring his HDD over and we will swap games as well. I'll let you know what I have after that and maybe we can just post our respective lists and cherry pick whichever remaining games the other wants.

Have fun at PAX. Make sure you guys plan your day, those lines get LONG. The Nindie booth is great but you can easily spend a few hours there, though you may have already played what you want at the Nintendo preview. Maybe save it for other stuff that you don't normally get to see like VR.
Bring your DS and leave it on Street Pass. So cool to see how many people around the world are walking around.

I wanted to post my latest experiences with Wii U homebrew and figured this thread would suffice (if anyone would rather create a new thread feel free). Using temporary exploits I've now successfully ripped all 34 Wii U discs I own and installed them to a USB hard drive connected to the Wii U. These games act basically like their digital equivalent (as if you bought it digitally) and interestingly the Wii U itself continues to work as an unhacked system (no custom firmware or permanent exploits are required to play these installed games). All my saves and DLC still work as well (had to copy all game data to the USB drive BEFORE installing to that USB drive). In summary: it allows me to have with the Wii U what I previously had with the Wii - all the games accessible with no disc changes required. I'm happy. The only other thing I still have to do is use Saviine (homebrew app) to dump all the saves I care about to my PC. I hadn't realized that even making a backup of the save to another USB drive may not suffice if my Wii U dies completely since saves are tied to the system they're on. Backing up regularly to PC will allow re-injecting the save to a different system if the worst ever happens. It also exposes the continuing epic fail that is Nintendo's save management. I'm just thankful for the homebrew scene for solving these issues.

Does the hack on Wii U allow you to play gamecube and Wii games on the Wii U as well? this is a hack I really want to do, but am just concerned I will brick my Wii U in some way. I love the idea of using the gamecube adapter on the Wii U to play gamecube games and it seems like having one system to act and play 3 systems worth of games is just the way to go.

Backing up and installing Wii U games is a separate process from hacking the Wii portion of the Wii U to play GameCube and Wii games. The Wii U stuff does not make any permanent changes and is as safe as you can get. The Wii menu hack is essentially the same process as hacking a Wii with only minor differences. It DOES make some permanent changes to the Wii mode of the Wii U, but those changes are very safe at this point if you follow the instructions (I believe you can undo them later if you want but I'm not positive). Worst case if you screw something up your Wii mode is hosed but the Wii U functionality remains. In any event, this is the thread to go to if you want to try it: gbatemp.net/threads/the-definitive-vwii-hacking-guide.425852/I've already done it and it works great - I have a drive full of my GameCube and Wii games; it works almost identically to my hacked Wii with slightly improved graphics due to the HDMI connection. Keep in mind, though, that you can't have your Wii U game drive plugged in at the same time as your Wii / GameCube drive when you're playing a GameCube game (yet). That's really only a minor inconvenience at this point though and I'd imagine this limitation will likely be overcome at some point.

I found my stash of backup Wii discs. I used these to play on my Wii and the burned them to the HDD.
I was able to play them because my Wii has a Modchip.
dschroll, if you have a modchip installed this would allow you to take my stash and rip them to your HDD.

I don't have a modchip installed, but I can rip Wii games from my Wii to the HDD using the USB loader. When you get a chance Cesar, list out which Wii games you have on your HDD (sorry, I know that might take some time). From there, I can go through your list and advise which ones I don't have and also which ones I do have that you don't have. Then we can work something out where we can either do some file sharing or physically mail one of our hard drives to the other. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks!
