You in fatty? There's a new scaled division, so that might be a better solution if you're concerned about equipment/movements. An educated guess is that w/ scaled, the RX movements may get harder, like handstand pushups, ring dips and the like. games.crossfit.com/

2015 Games have started. Now they have Teen divisions. DAMN, those 14 YOs are badass. I would go NUTS if one of them were my kid.

Anyone here use a fitness tracker? I have been having trouble getting motivated and I am thinking about getting a fitness tracker. Most of them seem useless to me since I do a variety of activities and I don't own a smart phone with GPS. So, biking with a fitbit would likely not be very useful. I have been interested in the Microsoft Band, though and they recently announced a new one. It comes with GPS built in, has a 2 day batter life and also does workouts in the gym. I am curious if anyone has any opinion about it. www.microsoft.com/microsoft-band/en-usIt's cheaper and more useful than the apple watch in my opinion. www.fool.com/investing/general/2015/10/11/microsoft-band-vs-apple-watch-dont-underestimate-t.aspxBut I have a few questions. 1. Can I input my desired workout rather than just download one from some site? 2. Can it track things like pullups or do I just tell it that I am done with a set of 10? 3. Can I put calories or food into some software I get with it to compare caloric intake versus burn? 4. Does the software on the PC work on Mac or just windows? 5. Can I sync it with an iPod? 6. Is that clasp thing opposite the screen very cumbersome? It looks interesting. Not sure if I need/want something like it in my life. Just curious if anyone here has any input. I'll probably look at reviews and vids once they come out. I worry it'll be a fad for me and I'll get bored of tracking in 3 months and have a $250 piece of electronics that sits on the shelf all the time.

I've avoided them mostly because I had minimal success w/ them in the past. I've used a Polar HRM for running and cycling in the past. I had all the attachments on my shoes & bike monitors. It provides you w/ tons of data. But at the end of the day, what will you do w/ the data?
All those trackers can help you keep track of all kinds of data but unless you actually do something w/ the data, it's not useful. Most people I know that have Fitbits use them to track how much they walk. Does it make them fitter or walk more? IMHO, I'd say no.
TBH, if you're going to spend the cash, get a phone w/ GPS. I use it on my iPhone w/ geocaching, running, etc and even w/o an Apple watch, it can be quite useful if you find the right apps. Tons of apps to track workouts, provide workouts (http://keelo.com/ by a friend of mine), diets, game-ify your workouts a la Strava (https://www.strava.com/)
Now if you don't have GPS on a phone because of a choice, that's a different issue and then you're only options are watches/trackers with standalone GPS. Having personal experience w/ a Garmin, having to deal w/ a standalone device that you have to manage w/ maps and updates is a complete pain in the ass.
BTW, I don't have an Apple Watch because I personally can't see myself paying over $500 for a digital watch. For that price (and above), I'd prefer a true, mechanical watch. Yes, I'm a watch hound as well, but mostly mechanical ones, not quartz based.
I do have an original Pebble watch from the Kickstarter. That one I like mostly because I can download my team and 8-bit game watchfaces.

Well one example of using the data springs to mind with this forum. The one time we challenged each other to run the most miles in a month is the one month I ran more miles than ever before... more miles than I ever thought possible. I was hoping I could use the data to challenge myself or others and therefore be more motivated. The problem with a phone for me is it's an ongoing cost. it's not $250 and done. It's $70/mo forever. Ugh. I am currently paying more like $10 per month. So, that's $720/year more. Then the apple watch is more on top of that and with less functionality. How did the garmin thing work? I assumed this band just mapped coordinates of where I was and that data got married with maps in the PC when I brought the data in... or on an app on my iPod... both which had live map data. Yeah, I hear what you're saying overall though. It's pretty questionable whether it will be worth it. I should probably save the $$$ towards VR where I will find myself sitting even more!

I'm grandfathered on ATT's 'unlimited' plan from my iPhone 1. In quotes because we all know the carriers don't understand the definition of unlimited. But now it's upped to 22GB/mo for $30 but only because there's only a handful of us w/ that plan. That being said, you can get reasonable data if you look at an MVNO like Ting, assuming you have T-Mo in your area. ting.com/ratesI moved my kids to this and it's easy because you pay for only what you use. You can use the app to control how much each phone uses as well. My daughter uses an unlocked iPhone 5 and I bought a DIRT CHEAP ZTE android phone (on sale for $25) from Best Buy with a $5 cert and it cost me $20. It's not the greatest phone but if he loses it (highly likely), I won't really care. With Ting, I got promotions to give me $75 credit so I actually don't have to pay for a while. I think it was $25/SIM and then I used a promo code from a podcast on top of that. www.bestbuy.com/site/t-mobile-prepaid-zte-zinger-no-contract-cell-phone-black/9574109.p?id=1219424185174&skuId=9574109Even though it's a T-Mobile phone, because Ting uses T-Mobile's network, I don't have to unlock it. For $200, you can find a decent, used, unlocked iPhone or Android phone on Craigslist. For fitness challenges, including both running AND cycling, Strava does what you propose. My Garmin had local map storage but the GUI was mind numbingly awful to use.

I'm doing a training camp at my local box next weekend. Camille LeBlanc Bazinet will also be one of the participants.

Trying to get back into working out with crossfit-inspired workout.
Was inspired today by:
Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of: 15-ft rope climb, 1 ascent 5 burpees 200-meter run
I subbed 10 strict pullups for the 15ft rope climb. I did 10 burpees instead of 5 Did the 200m run as prescribed
I did 5 rounds but it took me about 25 mins. Had to split my last set of pullups into 3. Pathetic. I am really out of shape. Sick of it.

So I've been thinking about these wearables a lot lately and I am thinking about grabbing a FitBit Charge 2 for Christmas. I think it would solve two minor problems for me:
1. I sometimes want to wake up early and go for a run but worry my alarm will wake Jen up. This has a silent alarm where it buzzes your arm to wake you up.
2. I want to jog intervals and have been doing so with an old Nike watch that beeps on the intervals. This works well if you don't want to listen to music and aren't wearing a bunch of clothes on your arm or ears to stay warm. Now that it is cold outside, I have more clothes on and often miss the interval beep. I'd also like to start listening to music when I jog. This again uses the vibration to let you know an interval target is reached and solves this problem as well.
I may get it for those 2 things alone. But, if I have it, I think I'd be interested to look at the other stats it tracks like health indicators, sleep indicators, etc. I was curious, does anyone here use a fitbit? If so, is there a way we can get into some kind of group to share stats or create challenges for each other?

No, I thought about getting a Fitbit, but don't know too much about it. I always wondered how good of a job it did with tracking calories on the type of workouts you did. The cheapskate in me still uses a pedometer for walking at work and mapmyrun.com for when I go on jogs.
I've been trying to get more active and especially watching what I'm eating now so if you want someone to do challenges with I'd be up for it.
On a side note, had to watch the video of Camille again posted by oldskool...so good.

On a side note, had to watch the video of Camille again posted by oldskool...so good. HAHA! I actually trained w/ her last year. I lost being a fan of her because her head got a little big. She and my coach share the same coach and they ran a competitive training camp at our gym so I met her. I actually understood her more, which explained why she's filmed/edited the way she is. I was more sympathetic. Strong personality. She's TINY, at least a head smaller than I and a badass CrossFitter for sure. My new fan favorite is Tia Claire-Toomey from Australia. She's podiumed at the last 2 Games, including representing Australia in the Olympics for weightlifting.

Reaper,
I ended up getting a fitbit charge hr yesterday (Target had them on sale on Sunday night). If you want to do any challenges or group sharing let me know. Still in the early stages of getting used to it but so far it is tracking steps, heart rate, flights of stairs and calories.
Oldskool,
Aw man, definitely not a fan of getting the big head. I will have to look out for that more and she the way she is edited haha. Tia Claire-Toomey is built like a machine.

Thanks for the heads up fatty. I bought a Fitbit Charge 2 but it's a Christmas present. So I have to wait a while longer before I can use it. Too bad. I went for a nice 6 mile run today. I'd like to see that in my fitness log!
