Seriously, how do people get those jobs? I don't get it. Nintendo hires people that aren't big Nintendo fans to rate their products. They hire people that don't play video games to work for their company. I don't get it

My 3DS XL arrived today from Newegg. The screens look absolutely massive compared to the original 3DS. I'll post again after I have a chance to use it a bit.

Have to admit, I was seriously hoping my boy would break my 3DS last week on his trip, giving me an excuse to buy an XL. But I seriously can't justify giving Nintendo more money on h/w because I find their lack of innovation troubling. I don't want to play more simply for new colors. Granted the bigger size is better for 3D but that should've happened from the start.

Got my NSMB2 but I can't update my 3DS until Acekard releases a new f/w. The wait begins, at least I got the 50 pts.

Oh, so you can't play it at all then? That sucks!

Played the first few levels of NSMB2 on the 3DS XL (so many acronyms ...) and the screens, while large, kind of seem 'normal' pretty quickly after playing for a few minutes. I don't think I'll ever want to go back to the regular 3DS now, of course. It's like a mini wide-screen portable TV, really. It does seem like the 3D effect is more stable during the time I've played it. On the original 3DS playing Mario 3D Land I remember many times having the blurred-edges effect when I shifted my head or the 3DS ... I haven't seen that much at all so far with the XL, so that part does seem better.
Finally, it just feels more comfortable to hold. Nicer material, better size, same weight. Thumbs up for me so far.

From what I read on CAG, it looks like K-Mart will be offering a $40 gift card with the purchase of a 3DS XL starting this weekend. That's very tempting as its effectively giving you a free game. I just hate paying tax on the stuff

Hmm, that's tempting. Have to admit that the upcoming games of interest to me seem to be on the 3DS.
I updated my 3DS the other day and started playing NSMB2. I'm only at World 2 and maybe it's just me but this game seems...meh. Very similar to the previous titles and the coin thing is nice but gets old fast, even the coon tail.

Agreed, but all the reviews said that too, so I knew what I was getting. Its enjoyable enough that I don't regret getting it, but not sure I will keep it a long time. My daughter loves watching me play it, so who knows? I may keep it for her. Either way, I doubt I'll be getting the million coins as I'd have to play each level numerous times and I've heard the reward for getting the million coins aint all that great...

Maybe I should've read the reviews...oh well at least it was only $30.

I'm in the minority but I was never really big on the first NSMB on the DS. Good quality game, but not to the caliber of the other Marios that I'm used to. Like it a lot on the Wii though, but playing with others has a lot to do with it, still haven't played it by myself yet.

www.ign.com/articles/2012/09/18/why-we-didnt-get-a-white-3ds-xlWhy We Didn't Get a White 3DS XL But don't give up hope - we might still get one yet. by Richard George SEPTEMBER 18, 2012
The Nintendo 3DS XL is certainly a step up over its previous model. Whether through its design, better battery life or larger screen, the new iteration of the 3DS has certainly captured the attention of many who have been waiting for a better excuse to buy Nintendo's new platform. There was just one problem - at the system's launch, not all territories were created equal.
While North America received Red/Black and Blue/Black models, the UK also received a Silver/Black iteration. Japan not only had that color configuration, but a gorgeous all-white model as well. One that neither North America nor Europe received. I've always been a bit puzzled as to why most of the world had been overlooked when it came to the silver and white models. So I did the only natural thing - I asked Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime for a reason, at least as far as his North American market was concerned. His answer was simple and made perfect sense - yet gave me a bit of hope for the future.
"We have launched silver- and white-colored GBAs, DSes, DSis, and in our [North American] market they don't sell very well," Fils-Aime admitted. "So instead of approaching this lighter-colored product as a mass [product], we're going to look at the opportunity on a much more limited basis. You might see a limited-time offer with a white or silver 3DS XL, or we might colorize it slightly differently. But in terms of an ongoing SKU, the consumer has responded in our marketplace and said that, for a handheld gaming device from Nintendo, that kind of white or silver doesn't sell nearly as well as blue or red or even pink."
It's interesting to not only note that Nintendo is still considering limited runs with lighter toned 3DS XL models, but that it's specifically light-toned portables that don't seem to sell well. Considering Nintendo of America kept Wii to just one color scheme - white - for years, that rule certainly didn't seem to apply to home consoles.
On a related note, if you can't wait for Nintendo to announce a white 3DS XL for where you live, you can always buy a Japanese version and swap its shell with your existing one. Sound crazy? One of our readers already did it - and created an awesome step-by-step guide! Check it out here - and understand that you'll void your warranty if you actually swap the shells. Man!! But I like the white, black and silver colors. I'm simple that way.

So I find out this is announced: I was holding out for the XL (which I will get eventually) but this is too tempting. I love Fire Emblem. I normally think handhelds with designs imprinted on them are a bit tacky but I like this one.

LOL...I was ALMOST gonna post this for you, but when I realized it wasn't an XL, I held off thinking you wanted an XL. I like the color and design of this one too, but I think you should go the XL route.

Ha ha. Yeah I hear you. I am kinda tempted to pick this up and keep it sealed to resell it, these type of limited editions systems seem to always go for quite a bit after its run. And if for some reason it is not worth reselling, at least I got a FE 3DS out of it. But I don't know, I've never really been into buying something to resell it.

i vaguely recall reading somewhere that extended use of this glasses-free 3d wasn't good for the wee tykes. under 6yo. i've used that as another avenue to keep me from spending money on things i dont need.
But i'm missing out, i know i am.

I wouldn't worry about the 3D and kids. Heck I think they can deal w/ it better than us old folks. Funny thing tho, my 7 yr old boy turns off the 3D most of the time, he prefers 2D.

Ouch! Yeah, Vita was cool at first, but its been a lull after that. I was excited about PS Plus on Vita, but not enough to buy a Vita yet. Sony just needs to suck it up and cut the price down to $199 and bundle in a memory card. Otherwise they might as well kill the platform and cut their losses. Either way, if Vita sales don't improve, I seriously doubt consumers will take any subsequent Sony handhelds seriously.
