I recently modded a PS Vita and I am absolutely loving it. I hacked it and put a ton of Vita and PSP games on it. Man, I wished I had gotten a Vita years ago. Honestly, had I gotten a Vita, I would be much less impressed with Switch as the Vita is a pretty capable little handheld. Nonetheless, the first game I played on my newly modded Vita was Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate. I'm a HUGE fan of the Arkham series and was definitely interested to try my hand at the handheld one. I would give this game a 7/10. It's a solid Metroidvania type game and all, but it just cannot hold a candle to the Rocksteady made games. The game's visuals are pretty solid but it tries to do this 2.5D type thing where it's 2D but it has you exploring areas that are in the background or foreground. It can make navigating the game a bit of a pain since you're kind of forced to go in one direction and have to go the spot on the screen that will take you to the background area and then you can get to where you are wanting to go. Definitely not ideal. The story of the game is ok, but there are a lot of things that just don't make sense. For instance, why would Wayne Corp. leave all these crates scattered throughout Blackgate Prison with Batman gear in them? I know this helps facilitate Batman getting various upgrades so he can explore the prison, but surely there has to be a better way to do this than have crates scattered across the prison that no one else have touched. The final boss in the game was a bit of a letdown and pretty easy all things considered. But, I played the game through and through, collecting all of the items and solving all of the puzzles. If you have a Vita, this one is definitely worth checking out. And if you don't have a Vita... Good to see you have one! I had two, one for my PSPlus stuff and one to hack and I was always meaning to get around to hacking the one I had on 3.60 f/w. Then I realized my son starting playing the Vita (he rarely plays videogames except for Roblox or if his friends want him to play) and he decides to upgrade the f/w...nooooo. So I finally got around to getting another Vita on 3.60. Do you still have the tutorial you used for modding it? I'm looking to use this but please let me know if you used something more useful: gbatemp.net/threads/guide-the-ultimate-noob-ps-vita-pstv-hacking-guide-check-here-first.403035/I'm looking forward to using this to play my NES/SNES/Genesis games on the go. I have a lot of my PSP games converted to ISOs through my modded PSP but my main concern is how to get my PSN content to it, especially since this new Vita does not have an account or games associated with it.

I loved Blackgate. Also, I finished Telltale Batman Season 2 this weekend. Another good one. Really liked the alternate take on the Batman mythos. Telltale could easily follow up with a Suicide Squad game.

If I could find a second Vita that wasn't too expensive (I paid $50 for my current one), I would totally get a second one to mod. You can mod a PSTV too, so I may opt for that if I can find a good deal on one. In terms of the tutorial that I used, I looked on youtube a lot. This one got me half way there: You'll also want to get an SD2VITA along with a micro SD card. I was told the hack only supports cards up to 128GB, so I wouldn't go beyond that. It's plenty of space though. Here's the SD2VITA that I bought. www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-SD2Vita-V3-0-PSVita-Game-Card-to-Micro-TF-Card-Adapter-for-PS-Vita-1000-2000-/332477263172?hash=item4d69306d44

Thanks dschroll, I might try tackling this this weekend. So glad about the SD2VITA, the original cards are too expensive. Frustrating that Sony still went that route.

This won't count toward the 2018 backlog (counted for 2017) but I finally finished Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels today. I reached the credits last year, and today finally completed all the bonus worlds (9 & A-D). I did this on an emulator using a metric ton of save states. I honestly cannot believe this was a Nintendo game. The difficulty goes beyond insanity to Super Mario Maker super expert levels of craziness. I can at least say I finished all the levels, even if it was a save-state-assisted run. I might be able to do it without save states using the infinite lives trick, but just thinking about attempting it makes me tired and sad. I'm quite happy to be done with it and will likely never revisit that game ever, ever again. For me it is a one-star (out of five) game due to the mind-numbing difficulty that takes all the fun out of what is normally a pretty fun series. If you couldn't tell by now, I'm not a fan.

Am in London now with my family and played some more of my PSVita.
Finished Metal Slug 3. Yes I know I played it last year on my PS4 but this time it was on the Vita.
Also played a PS1 game on the vita called Strikers 1945. This is a shooter and it’s really cool. Unfortunately I am only able to beat the game on “very easy”. Even bumping it up easy mode makes it too tough for me. But it’s a blast nonetheless and I recommend it to any shooter fans. Even if you’re not good at them like me.

Finished Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens on my PS Vita. I heard this game was really enjoyable so I had somewhat higher expectations than I do of most Lego games. Unfortunately it felt very average to me when all was said and done. It wasn't the awesome Star Wars game I felt some review sites lead me to believe. It was your stereotypical Lego game. A few things made me chuckle and it was pretty easy since there doesn't seem to be any penalty for dying. So, I'd give this one a 6.5/10. If you've played other Lego games then you'll know what to expect with this one.

Continuing to give my PS Vita lots of love this year, I just played through Limbo on it. This is a game I've played before many years ago on the XBOX 360, but I honestly didn't remember much about it since it's been so long since i've played it. So, I opted to give it another play through and I enjoyed it every bit as much as I recall enjoying it all those years ago. It's a great, atmospheric game and the puzzles are fun and challenging, but not overly difficult. It's not a long game...I think I spent a handful of hours playing it, but it's an excellent game and I highly recommend it if you haven't played it before. It is not a game for kids as it's very creepy and you will die a lot in this game.

Their next game, Inside, was even better. Check it out.

Their next game, Inside, was even better. Check it out. Played inside already. Played limbo before that. Just replayed limbo again as it’s been a while. And I agree, inside is better. Ending is just weird though.

Got the platinum in League of Evil on Vita. What a great game for people who play on the toilet and think Super Meatboy is way too hard.

Thimbleweed Park on iOS. VERY good retro adventure game. Even a better deal for $5 on iOS.
Characters were detailed and voice acting, while sometimes corny, was pretty entertaining. Ending was a little abrupt for me, kinda like the ending of Sopranos, but that might have been the point.

Finished Yoshi's Island DS.
Decided to try finishing some of my DS backlog, and unfortunately this wasn't a good choice (for me). I had started it twice previously and stopped and I remember why. I hated this game. Hated it. Some good platforming early but the game gets ridiculously hard later on and I ended up just finishing it to be done with it.
Early on I decided not to try to complete everything (get 100 score on each level), but even with a (relatively) easier experience it was completely unenjoyable for me. The other major issue was the gap between top and bottom screen that actually contains stuff you can't see. Overall I'd give this a D-. Poor controls, tedious-to-complete levels, and incredibly annoying baby crying sounds every few seconds in the later levels.
Only bright spot was the dialog in the cut scenes that had some funny moments. (e.g. "What happened to baby Bowser?? Eh, who cares.")

Man, you're desire for completion is impressive. If a game isn't good, regardless of how much I paid for it, it's guaranteed to gather dust.

To be fair, there have been a couple games in the past year I started and stopped and don't plan on revisiting. In the case of Yoshi's Island I had tried it before and knew it had good reviews (generally) so I felt I needed to give it a full playthrough. I was wrong. Not sure why it was reviewed as highly as it was. Felt way worse than the original on SNES (which I also don't remember too well but know it was universally acclaimed).

Even though I've put more time into it than any other game and I will likely keep playing it, I'm going to count Splatoon 2 as finished. I completed the single player portion this evening finding all the scrolls and sardines. I may go back and play through it with various weapons so I can unlock the hero weapons, but this one is done as far as completing it goes.

Finished God of War last week, but I went back in to 100% the game, even getting the platinum trophy. That's how much I enjoyed this game. I will be posting a review on the God of War thread.

Played through Space Channel 5 on my Dreamcast. I had this game back in the day and sold it off years ago but with my modded Dreamcast wanted to play it again. This is a rhythm game like simon says where you have to repeat the moves. It’s not overly complex and the music is really catchy. It’s also one of those beautifully whacky sega games where aliens invaded the earth and are forcing people to dance so you have to outdance the aliens. Overall the game is fun but my complaint about the game today is the same complaint I had in 2000 when I first played it. As you push the buttons to do the moves, the main character says and dances those moves, except with a slight delay from when you pushed the button. And this game requires precision timing. So you have to push the up button at the exact same point in the music as the computer first did but the character says ‘up’ half a second after that so it really throws you off. I honestly found it easier to look down at the controller and listen to the moves and just say it out loud while pushing the buttons so I can’t let the audio delay throw off my timing.
The game is not long in terms of play time. There are 4 stages and the whole thing can be beaten in about one hour. However, save points are few and far between. I had to replay the last level a few times as it’s the hardest of the bunch and that level lasts a good 20 minutes. I’d often die at the end and have to start the entire last level over again. Very frustrating especially when I got to the very end and missed the very last note....ugh. But perseverance paid off and I eventually beat the game. Not sure I finished it back In the day. I don’t recall I did anyway.
One other cool note is that Michael Jackson is in this game both as a character and Voice. Just a small cameo but still cool and he’s sporting some traditional MJ dance moves.
Overall, this game was fun but short. It came at a time when sega was releasing such creative and whacky games and I applaud their efforts with trying something new. It’s not the best rhythm based game out there by any means, but still a solid entry. And I never knew until recently that sega released a sequel on the PS2. Once I get around to cleaning up and modding my PS2 I will definitely be checking it out. 7/10

Sounds a little like Elite Beat Agents, in that it is also a rhythm game with a weird alien back-story. (I *loved* EBA and completed everything in it. Wish that one had a sequel.)
Noticed the sequel is available on the PS store for PS3, I might pick it up.
