Yeah, you're right about the PS3/360. I am just worried about MS and the Kinect and the idea of family room dominance overriding their common sense.
I actually like the idea of an activation code for a game so that I can install it and not have to take the disc back out of the drawer again. But I kind of wish the code was tied inherently to the disc and one console. I don't want to pay for the code and have it tied to my userID. So, in my idea, if you put the disc in, you could activate the game on that console. If you sold the disc, the buyer of said disc could activate the game on their console, thereby deactivating it on your console.
Keeping up with the rumors is fun and I am trying to keep an open mind about what I buy next gen. Right now, even steam box is on the table for me. But I still lean heavily to the xbox unless they mess it up somehow.

I'd be hugely surprised if either Sony or MS adopted technology to kill the second-hand market ... at least with Disc based media. It's just so consumer unfriendly and they don't want to put off costumers while launching a new expensive console.

Not much new info here but if MS supresses the used game market and builds a weaker machine than Sony, I may consider jumping ship to the PS4 for next gen gaming. 'Ohhhhh shinny!' ;D

Used games often translate to new game sales, where people use the credit they received from used games to purchase new ones. Its a shame most developers seem to overlook this aspect of the business. Absolutely!

I am saying that I hope ms doesn't concentrate too much on casual games and non gaming features on the next Xbox. I hope they stay true to great gaming experiences like braid and halo and skyrim.

I like the idea of voice control, but in practice ... so far it doesn't work well enough. Even Siri. I rarely actually use Siri.

According to a Nikkei report sourced to an unnamed Sony Computer Entertainment employee, the PlayStation 4 will have "new playing options" as its primary selling point, rather than its hardware specs. It sounds very Nintendo-like on a broad scale, but somewhat different in execution, as those new playing options will be based on connections to other devices, including smartphones.
The PS4 will be presented as a "nerve center" for home entertainment, with improved ability to connect to mobile devices - including Xperia smartphones, Nikkei notes, but presumably popular phones as well.

I hope it offers an unparalleled experience connecting to the Vita. That would be awesome and may convince me to buy both.

I hope it offers an unparalleled experience connecting to the Vita. That would be awesome and may convince me to buy both. I don't see what kind of unparalleled experience a $400 PS4 and $250 Vita can offer that a $300 Wii U cannot. I hope Sony has more tricks up its sleeves than just doing Vita connectivity.

I would like game content that I can play on either system, I pay for it once and I can play it on both and if I choose, bring the Vita with me on the road. I think some of that exists now but I'd like to see it be commonplace.
Kind of ties into my real goal that I want a MS handheld that plays my entire XBLA library. But since that seems unlikely...

I can maybe understand the multiplayer thing but should the xbox be bc at least for single player experiences? It's just another x86 based cpu isn't it?

The current 360 is Power PC based I believe.
