The current 360 is Power PC based I believe. Dave is correct. MS is rumored to be moving to AMD based processors ... that would make it hard to be backwardly compatible unless they plan to use emulation.

Not nearly as cool as the Wii U gamepad, which I have to say, is pretty damn cool actually.

Yeah, with no screen, I have to wonder what that is even for... the only thing I can think of is gestures... which is rather unappealing to me. I don't want to have to stretch my thumbs into the middle to perform some silly gesture to perform a finishing move. I dunno, it just seems like a goofy more complex way to do what we're already doing with buttons. I don't know that gestures make gaming better. Maybe it's more immersive and any Vita owners here may have something to offer on the topic.
I'm kind of more interested in the blue glow and why motion tracking a controller would be cool. Hrmm.... I wonder if that would play into oculus rift support allowing the gamer to move closer/farther from something. Like you reach out your hands with the controller in them to do something in a gamer and the system tracks the controller to know where your hands are.

Looks better than the prototype. I'm definitely curious what all it can do, but again, the gamepad on the wii u is pretty damn cool and I don't think Sony's controller will come close to trumping it.

We're just a few days away from Sony's February 20th "see the future of" PlayStation event where we expect to see the next edition of its home console, and the rumor mill is buzzing. The latest one tonight comes from the Wall Street Journal, with a report that connects Sony's $380 million purchase of cloud gaming service Gaikai last year with a method to provide backwards compatibility on the PlayStation 4. The WSJ reports Sony has been "investing heavily" in preparing Gaikai for an influx of PS4-equipped gamers, while also developing better cameras for its Move and the DualShock+touchpad controllers we've seen recently.
What's not revealed however, is any potential pricing plan, or whether cloud games will work users existing cloud saves. While buying fully digital copies of games we already own is less than appealing, if Sony can implement something like the abandoned UMD-to-PSP Go "good will" plan, then there may be benefits for all.

You know what would be really cool? If the Vita could stream PS3 games!

Honestly ... I'm not trying to troll this.
This game looks like any other IMO. Big guys with guns fighting Aliens on exotic worlds with prettier graphics.
I think there is a larger issue going on in this industry ... lack of new ideas. This includes all console makers. As a gamer ... I really want to try something new.

I agree that the core story has been seen before. But the ideas of persistent worlds, multiplayer RPG on console, day night cycles, using resources earned during combat to buy ships, etc, get me excited. Those are the things we don't do this gen. It's like Skyrim in space on crack and all your friends are there. It may not be something completely new in every aspect but I think it brings some interesting ideas to the table.

I'll need to learn a lot more about this game before I get excited, but I'm generally not a fan of MMO type games. I know they say there will be no subscription fees, but if Activision wants you to keep playing this game for hundreds of hours, then they're going to want to sell you something during that time. Chances are if its not paying a subscription, it'll be purchasing a new world or quest or something else to "save the universe." I'm not against DLC as I've purchased my fair share. But I just don't like the idea of a neverending quest where once I complete one thing, I need to pay money in order to proceed to the next. This is all just me speculating right now and I could be way off, but Activision is all about making money for these long tail type games, so I'm just taking this all with a grain of salt until we learn more with respect to how the game is structured and how players can progress in this kind of game.
On top of that, this is a PS3/360 game (no Wii U version announced right now...Boo! Activision), and chances are the new XBOX and Playstation will be on the market by the time this game comes out. Not sure that's the best strategy for this kind of game as they're going after an audience who may be looking to do a console upgrade. Its very possible that it'll be on the new consoles as well and they just can't announce it until the new consoles are announced. We'll see what happens as I'm sure we'll learn much more come E3.
Not sure why Bungie chose this week to make an announcement, maybe to align it with the PS4 announcement? Either way, I'm intrigued and definitely interested in learning more about this game, but in general I'm not a fan of MMO type games.

Not really next gen news, but rumor has it Sony will be dropping the price of the Vita down to $199. Here's a snippet from a Japanese ad. I wouldn't be surprised if they announced this news this Wednesday at the Playstation conference.

You know the PS Vita was down to $180 and bundled with Assassin's Creed Liberation and a memory card over the holidays, right?
