I realized there was no topic for the game yet, and I feel like it's better to have a single thread rather than posting in the Switch or Wii U threads because, well, it's on both systems. My credit card was charged today for my Best Buy pre-order (Wii U version) - things just got real!! Did I mention I love GCU? I don't plan on any marathon sessions, but you never know. Either way, I'll be posting my impressions as I go and will try to keep any spoilers out (or use appropriate tags). I'm assuming we'll have a lot of positive feedback from the group on this game because if Nintendo can't get Zelda right they're in big trouble.

I'm curious if there's anything specific on the Wii U that's not on Switch. Using the 2nd screen as a map is kind of useful so that type of game mechanic just disappears on the Switch.
TBH, I actually might finish a Zelda game on the Switch since I can play it HH while watching TV.

Well, IGN already said that there's no touch screen mechanic on the Switch or Wii U versions of the game. Seems like that could've been easily incorporated into the Wii U version but perhaps they didn't bother with it since they weren't doing it with the Switch.
It's a shame the Wii U never really got its own truly unique Zelda game.

Game has arrived via FedEx - let the hype begin! I probably won't get to play it until later this weekend, but the reviews have me eagerly anticipating an epic journey.

My daughter played more than I did, but we are both loving it. Love the visual style and the game is so friggin huge. This one is going to take me months...

I played for about 2.5 hours tonight. Enjoying it so far but haven't been hooked yet. Looking forward to playing more.

Just started today. One issue that has annoyed me is the controller options. On the back of the gamebox it clearly shows Wii Remote & Nunchuk as one option and Wii Remote & Classic Controller as another option. Guess what? Neither one works in the game, unless I missed something. It's gamepad or pro controller only. Seems like a pretty big error on the box if there are no other controllers that work. I really would have preferred the classic controller.

What does it mean in inventory when you look at your bow and it shows 14 -> 5 on the right side of the screen? Not sure what all the numbers mean.
It'd be nice to have some kind of inventory screen description somewhere.

I believe it's the power of your bow. Some bows are more powerful than others. In your case, I think it means you have a 14 bow and are looking to switch it to a 5 bow. At least, that's my take on it.

I see that the official guide comes out Wed. Debating to get it, I used to live on those guides back in the Gamecube days.
I know that I can resort to the web if I'm stuck but there's something different about just referring to a book. My son is slightly ahead of me and I have to keep reminding him that I don't want feedback if it's something I haven't seen yet. Unless it means another heart container or inventory slot...
UPDATE: This is the Piggyback version. Looks like Prima's going to take longer.

Played about 2 hours or so yesterday. So far ... it's pretty good. Really like the shrine setup - short, mini-dungeons to unlock new items / abilities. I haven't really noticed any graphical issues on the Wii U, but I probably am not the guy to pick out frame rate / texture stuff. Looks beautiful to me.

Played a few more hours today. Even better! Really digging the game early on, a little annoying to have weapons break and disappear but the scope of this game is just getting bigger and bigger the more I play.

Yeah, this game is just insane with how big it is. Every time I start making my way towards an area, I look somewhere else and wonder "what's on top of that hill?" or "what's in those caves?" and start making my way to places I honestly had no intention of going to. But I just can't help it. Before I know it I've been playing an hour and am no further to completing my objective than I was when I started.
If I had to nitpick, I've gotten to a point in the game where there was quite a bit of pop in. It's by no means a huge issue, but one that it is disappointing to have given it's 2017 and a next gen console should be capable enough to handle. Still though, I am not normally an open world game guy, but I am completely enamored with this game. When I'm not playing it, I keep thinking about how I can't wait to get back to playing it.
And I must confess having the ability to bring it with me is definitely a nice perk of the Switch.

Funny. Sounds like you are talking about Skyrim. Maybe this will hook you on open worlds.

Sad to say I don't know what "pop in" is ...

It's when objects in the game suddenly pop into view. For instance, I was paragliding from a mountain top down to a farm and as I was moving closer to the farm animals and trees would suddenly start popping in. The system wasn't powerful enough to draw those objects at a distance and slowly increase their size. Again, not a huge issue and I keep in mind that this game wasn't originally designed for the switch, so there are probably areas that aren't as efficient as they otherwise would be.

Ah, OK. I don't think I ever really thought about that but I haven't played anything beyond PS3 and Wii U so I probably wouldn't have noticed. Since I play more retro stuff I can say it's at least better than Mario 64.

Up to about 13 hours after a lengthy session last night. Based on what I've seen so far and a really cool ability I received in the game I can fairly confidently say this is already my favorite Zelda game (and I have a LONG way still to go, haven't even gotten to a dungeon yet!). For me, it's a generational leap from any previous games as far as what it offers in game play.
