Completed Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 for Gameboy (via 3DS VC). OK game, not my favorite by any means.

Completed Transformers Devastation on PS4. The graphics are awesome and look like it was taken right from the old cartoon. Many of the original voice actors are in it. The story plays out like an episode from the cartoon would. It's not an awesome story, but it feels at home in the Transformers Universe. And many of your favorite classic Transformers are in this game such as Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, Grimlock, Constructicons (who form Devastator), Starscream, Soundwave, Shockwave, Insecticons, etc. This game literally has you fighting Devastator within the first 10 minutes of the game.
So, what's not to love? Well, there are a number of things I didn't care for in this game.
First, this game is an action game, but it's one made by Platinum. Meaning the games strength is more in hand to hand combat, not really using your weapons. This seems very much out of place in the Transformers universe where in the cartoon most of the battles tended to be with weapons. In this case, you spend most of your time punching and kicking more than you do shooting. However, transformations do play a good part for the fight mechanic, so that helps.
Second, the game doesn't really do a great job at all telling you about all the various things there are to do in the game. There's a bunch of things you can collect in this game that unlocks some artwork and such. However, I didn't know what the collectibles were until I started messing around in the game menus to find out that several things I had seen in earlier levels were actually collectibles that I had to shoot or something else. That annoys me as I had no idea what I was supposed to do with those things and figured it out later, realizing if I cared about these at all I would have to go back and replay earlier levels.
The game has a weapon forging system which I didn't really understand and didn't want to invest the time on how to use it. It felt like more trouble than it was worth and just wasn't that interesting as I managed to finish the game without needing it.
That being said, this game is hard. It is a Platinum game after all, so I went into it expecting a challenge, and I definitely got one. I had to replay almost every boss fight at least once. The boss fights were decent, but bosses just felt so much more powerful than you. I'm fighting with Optimus Prime against Starscream. I mean, come on....a few hits and he practically kills me, but I'm walloping on him and it barely dents his health. Optimus Prime aint no slouch....so, it just felt unbalanced.
There's a lot of replay value in this game if you like collectibles and want to get all the trophies. However, I am not that type of gamer as I was content to play through it once and move on. Decent game if you're a Transformers fans (especially of the classic 80s show). I definitely recommend it to Transformer fans, but I personally enjoyed War for Cybertron far better. It didn't have the same great look that Devastation has, but the narrative and battles and such in War for Cybertron just was much more enjoyable for me.
I'd give this one a 7/10 folks. Let me know if anyone is interested in this game and I'll hook you up. Otherwise it's off to Best Buy for trade in.

Finished Slice It! for 3DS. Pretty fun geometry-based game, which is right up my alley.

Finished Episode 1 of Telltale's Batman. Love the art style, story is right up my alley. Kinda the same decision making from Wolf Among Us/Walking Dead. If you like those, this is pretty good. Interesting to see other story lines take shape in the DC universe.

Finished Gone Home on PS4. I cannot get over how much I loved this game. Its a short game and its literally rummaging through an empty house to piece together the story of what's happened. Yet, in those few hours, as the story comes together I began to care about the characters and just couldn't stop playing as I had to uncover the next clue to find out what happened to everyone. It's a very unique type of game and storytelling, and one that I cannot recommend enough to the gamer out there that likes these types of unique experiences. Some people will argue it's not a game at all, and they may be right. It's more likely an interactive story but emphasis on the interaction. Still, what a great way to tell a story. I can understand now why this was many people's pick for game of the year. I don't think it would've won game of the year from me, but absolutely it would've been on the nominated list.

Yeah, I liked that game too. Surprising since it's kind of slow. But I agree, it was an interesting way to piece together a story. My hope is that I can discover more of these types of games at PAX.

Finished Metroid (attempting a Metroid series playthrough). Man, the final Mother Brain boss is not for the faint of heart - I forgot how difficult the end of the game is. Thanks to restore points I avoided the tedium of filling all my energy and missiles each time at least.

Completed Rhythm Thief for 3DS. Received this game through a humble bundle. It was just an ok game. I would give a 6 out of 10. Made by Sega, so there were elements of Space Channel 5 in the game along with direct references to Samba De Amigo. I am a big Sega fan, so I love references like this. Nonetheless, this has to be the most story heavy Rhythm game I've ever played. The story is pretty lame overall, but this game really tried hard to build a narrative here. The game is also very wordy as there are so many people you need to talk to and interact with. Not a fan of that from my rhythm games. Story is of little interest to me.
The games themselves ranged from pretty good to bad. Some were fun and fairly intuitive, asking you to swipe on the touchscreen in time and direction with what it was telling you Other games used the tilt function in the 3DS, which I was not a fan of because tilt isn't that accurate on the 3DS so you certainly don't want a rhythm game relying on something so inaccurate. Additionally, some of the games just required you to be looking at 2 different places on the screen at the same time. Not a fan of that as I had to replay those several times and barely passed them. The sambe de amigo style game was cute and I appreciated the attempt, but would've liked some of the music from those games. There was a violin style game that I enjoyed where you were sliding the stylus back and forth along the screen like you were playing the violin.
Overall, I appreciate Sega trying to do something unique and offered a variety of games to play, but several of those games were mediocre, the story was not all that interesting, and the game was just so wordy that it took nearly 10 hours to finish. Wouldn't recommend unless you absolutely love rhythm games and there's nothing else you haven't already played. Otherwise, go play Elite Beat Agents or Rhythm Heaven instead.

I gotta ask.
Is it the completionist in you that compells you to finish a game deemed 6/10? For me, if it starts out badly or even not that great, I pretty much give up, regardless of how much I paid.

In his case, I almost gave up on this game early on until I got to that samba de amigo mini game. Being a big sega fanboy, as soon as I saw that I decided to keep playing to see if there were other sega references. Sadly their weren't.

Got the plat in Hitman Go. Also beat Ratchet and Clank Full Frontal Assault. Might go for the plat in that.

It was well worth $3 and it runs like crap on Vita, but I was still happy to play it. If I go for the plat, I'll use cross save and play it on my PS3.

Finished Kirby's Epic Yarn with my daughter. We had a blast playing this game together. It's about the only game I think she likes playing because she doesn't die. She gets so upset on games where you die and I wish there was more I could do to help her have fun in spite of dying, but she just gets frustrated so easily and wants to stop. We may give Super Mario 3D world another go around since I can help carry her in that game.

Finished Uncharted 2 on PS4. Second play through of this game. Still holds up great. Probably my favorite of the Uncharted games, although I haven't played 4 yet.

Completed Rhythm Heaven Megamix on 3DS. Great game, but I think it's $30 asking price for a download game is a bit steep. Definitely recommended if/when it goes on sale though.

Completed Batman Arkham VR and 100% it with every riddler trophy and such. This game (when it worked) was tricking amazing and truly just shows the potential of VR. If I end up keeping my PS VR, I'm keeping this game as I can easily hop back in for a few more play throughs. It's fairly short, but what's there is a gaming experience I have never had before and I loved every minute of it.
